Zielsetzung / Objectifs

Knowledge
The participants will know:
- how cognitive psychology can inform effective teaching and learning
- approaches to gathering data through questions.

Know-how
The participants will be able to:
- apply cognitive psychology theories in teaching, especially in how we communicate our questions
- use a variety of strategies to efficiently check for understanding
- use a variety of strategies to help ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Posture
The participants will:
- appreciate that checking for understanding of all students can promote equity
- appreciate the power of collaboration
- have the courage to take sensible risks and try things out.

Inhalt / Contenu

This workshop aims to explore ways in which students show what they understand (and misunderstand). The emphasis is on receiving and providing feedback efficiently. During the workshop, participants have opportunities to consider how teaching strategies used and presented in the workshop can be applied in the classroom. Furthermore, there are opportunities for participants to collaborate and share experiences.
