Appropriate use of technology in the classroom and assessments: GeoGebra and Numworks

Kontext / Contexte
Having spoken to many teachers across the International Schooling community there appears to be a need to have a training on how to make the best use of technology available to us with a strong focus on GeoGebra and particularly Numworks.
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Knowledge
Participants understand:
- how to better implement the available technology in their teaching
- the limits of the particular tools in mathematics.
Skills
Participants will be able to:
- use various NumWorks emulators
- use NumWorks and GeoGebra for teaching.
Attitudes
Participants are encouraged to reflect on the challenges and opportunities, from both a didactic and pedagogical point of view, of using a specific mathematical tool.
Inhalt / Contenu
Using GeoGebra and NumWorks in class and for assessments.
- How to use the various NumWorks emulators - web, iPad, iPhone etc.
- How to ensure that the NumWorks are suitable for a test
- How to ensure that the iPad can be used in assessments (restricting apps)
- The advantages of using GeoGebra to teach certain topics
- The advantages of using NumWorks to teach certain topics
- NumWorks applications focusing on:
-- Calculation
-- Grapher
-- Equations
-- Statistics
-- Regression
-- Sequences
-- Distributions
-- Inference: NHST as per the 3P syllabus
- GeoGebra focusing on:
-- Graphing
-- Algebra
-- Geometry
Arbeitsformen / Approche méthodologique
To support the maximum number of participants this training will be held on Teams. Thus, I will be limited to showing the emulators of Numworks as from a computer screen rather than the handheld device.
We will explore the strengths and weaknesses of the tools at our disposal and this includes time for discussion.
There will be plenty of opportunities to use the tools in practical examples not just in a lesson environment but also in an assessment one too.

Remarques / Anmerkung
The MS Teams training requires a Microsoft Teams connection, a microphone and a camera to attend the course (PC or laptop, no iPad or smartphone). You will be added to your group in Teams one working day before the first session. If possible, please connect to MS Teams 5 minutes before the webinar starts. -
It is important that participants have both GeoGebra and Numworks installed on their device, computer, iPad... If on a school's iPad they may need to speak to someone at their school to have the apps installed. It will also be great to have the 'Teacher' app installed too (only available on school iPads). A basic understanding of how to use GeoGebra and Numworks would be of benefit it is essential that there is a prior knowledge of how a scientific calculator functions.
