Poetry in the Air! Embedding a rich diet of poetry into everyday learning across the curriculum

Kontext / Contexte

Today there is a high emphasis on bringing a wide variety of poetry daily to our learners. This course will suggest ways to create high-quality resources and methods to bring poetry alive using a rich source of poems. Children can benefit enormously at all levels from enriching vocabulary, to understanding figurative language and the sound patterns that build phonetic knowledge and confidence in reading fluently.

Zielsetzung / Objectifs

Knowledge
The participants will learn:
- techniques to improve vocabulary and comprehension
- teaching approaches and Universal Design For Learning guidelines (multiple means of presentation).

Know-how
The participants will be able to:
- build literacy skills: how poetry enhances all areas of language development
- bring poetry alive using a variety of access experiences for all learners
- explore age-appropriate poems and sources.

Posture
The participants will:
- share activities to help learners create their own poems
- develop a fundamental understanding of poetry and classroom sources and resources.

Inhalt / Contenu

Through a presentation of a range of poems for all ages, we will explore poetry from a wide variety of sources through the ages and engage in language activities together to widen our skills and knowledge to bring about rich language experiences to our students linked to the new European Curriculum for L1.
