Positive Discipline in the Classroom (ES)

Kontext / Contexte
This 13.5 hours interactive workshop is designed for teachers, counselors, school staff, and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator.
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Knowledge
The participants will learn about:
- the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change
- Positive Discipline / Adlerian Psychology to use in the classroom and school community.
Know-how
The participants will be able to:
- facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving
- establish explicit classroom structures and procedures
- develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches.
Posture
The participants will:
- create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect
- generate an awareness of cross-cultural issues in facilitating social and emotional learning.
Inhalt / Contenu
- Two Lists

- kindness & firmness (focus only on)
- introduction to concepts of Alfred Adler Mistaken Goals (behavior is purposeful, but often based on mistaken ideas of how to get belonging, private logic, etc.) Brain in the Palm of the Hand & Positive Time Out

- Four R’s of Recovery from Mistakes
- solutions vs. consequences
- empowering vs. discouraging
- Please Be Seated & Cooperative Juggling (control vs. cooperation)
- share the “House of Positive Discipline"
- 8 Essential Skills of Class Meetings (getting into a circle, compliments, role-playing and brainstorming for solutions)

Remarques / Anmerkung
There will be two trainers for the 22nd and 23rd September and two sessions on the 13th of October in order to be able to have one French and one English group. Depending on numbers, the language in the groups can be adapted.
