Kontext / Contexte
The foundation course aims at introducing members of the school community to the main thematic areas of educational and vocational guidance in Luxembourg and supports them in defining and developing their own role within that very remit. The course also aims to inform about key resources, share good practice examples and get familiar with the legal framework.
The concept, consisting of a total of 30 hours on-site training and e-learning, was developed on the basis of existing curricula and through exchanges with members of guidance units. Advanced training courses on educational and vocational counselling, as well as a network for sharing inspiring practices can be attended after completing the introductory course / foundation course.
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Knowledge
The participants will learn about:
- the main trends in the / evolution of the labour market and the characteristics of career paths and life situations of youngsters ("generation Z")
- the main elements of career / life choice theories
- young people's needs when it comes to managing transitions
- the legal framework and tasks of guidance units in the school context
- success factors and quality criteria for career guidance processes
- information sources, platforms, partners and good practice examples for school-based actions.
Know-how
The participants will be able to:
- describe and develop their own role in guidance and, where appropriate, distinguish it from other functions they have in the school (community)
- identify potential for learning and development, both for themselves and for their school, and plan corresponding actions
- use the main information sources in Luxembourg and involve partners in guidance actions.
Posture
The participants will:
- develop an open, respectful and constructive attitude towards counselling and guidance of pupils and towards their (vocational) questions and wishes
- become aware of their own values in terms of educational and vocational guidance and reflect on the impact they have on pupils.
Inhalt / Contenu
The training course includes 3 days of face-to-face training, practical work in the form of e-learning units and a 2-hour debriefing.
Key areas to be covered:
- day 1: context of guidance in the 21st century (changes in the labour market, educational and career paths, theories of career choice, needs of young people, context and content of school guidance processes)
- day 2: guidance in the school context (quality criteria, success factors, legal framework and examples of measures for implementation)
- day 3: professional attitude and posture and putting knowledge into practice
- e-Learning tasks: reflecting and developing one's own role and field of activity, using information sources and consulting reference / key documents.

Remarques / Anmerkung
Participants should be prepared to engage in a constructive peer-to-peer exchange, implement self-directed learning processes, reflect on their own practice(s) and get familiar with digital platforms and tools.
A first e-learning activity is planned in order to prepare for Day 1 (description of one's own function; post a question in a Moodle forum). A message with further information will be sent to all registered participants about 2 weeks prior to day 1.
