Kontext / Contexte
RPE Lecture Series - Capitalizing on Multilingualism and Diversity in Education
The RPE Lecture Series 2015-2016 ‘Capitalizing on Multilingualism and Diversity in Education’ is organised by the Research Priority Education, an interdisciplinary network of researchers at the University of Luxembourg working in the field of educational sciences.
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
The Council of Europe is an organization which recommends policy to its Member states but does not in any sense enforce it. Its language education policy is located within a wider context of the three main principles of the Council, i.e. democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Furthermore, competence in language and languages is linked in particular to the concept of intercultural dialogue and democratic culture through the emphasis on intercultural competence. In his presentation Professor Byram will outline some of the implications of this situation in terms of how policy influences play out on European and worldwide levels, and what this means for the plurilingualism of persons and the multilingualism of geographic, institutional and other kinds of spaces.
Inhalt / Contenu
The lecture series of the Research Priority Education investigates how multilingualism and diversity affect learning practices and processes, and how multilingualism and diversity can be capitalized on and transformed into resources for educational success and social well-being.
