English Teachers' Day - Morning Session: Acting Exercises for Use in the Classroom
(Code : D1-d-09)
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Know-how
Participants will be able to use vocal exercises and exercises in their classroom practice.
Posture
Participants will be brought to reflect on how they can make themselves heard in the classroom.
Inhalt / Contenu
This workshop will introduce the participants to a number of both vocal exercises and acting exercises which can be applied practically in the classroom.
The vocal exercises, which will open the session, can be used to help improve the speaking volume, clarity and pronunciation of pupils when they are either reading from texts or speaking on a particular subject. The exercises can also perhaps be of value to the teachers themselves in helping to make themselves heard in the classroom (not always easy).
The acting exercises, which will form the bulk of the workshop, start with character visualisation and then move onto group scene- creation. These are useful in helping pupils explore characters and events in assigned texts in a fun and proactive way. The aim will be to give the teacher an additional tool with which to make texts interesting, accessible ... and fun!
Finally, time permitting we will discover a couple of concentration games which can help bored students get their focus back.

Arbeitsformen / Approche méthodologique
The workshop will be practical and participants will be required to actively participate (no hiding in the back on your I-phone!) WE won’t be rolling around on the floor or being overly physical, but some action is required. So dress casually. And to help things along an active knowledge of at least one of the following texts would be useful: Pride and Prejudice, King Lear and/or The Great Gatsby
