Kontext / Contexte
Since coding is implemented in primary schools from this year, it will be important to start early and get the children introduced to coding. This course will show the teachers how to introduce young children age 6 to 8 years to coding with unplugged activities and Scratch Jr app.
Zielsetzung / Objectifs
Participants will learn:
- Basic Computer Science concepts
- computational thinking, problem-solving
- creative computing with Scratch.
Participants will be able to:
- integrate unplugged or offscreen activities into the classroom
- create stories, animations, games using Scratch
- integrate creative computing into the classroom.
Participants should be:
- open-minded
- creative
- willing to introduce new age concepts for the young children
- inspired to inspire.
Inhalt / Contenu
Session 1 – Video tutorial: City traffic – learn how to create an animation by adding sprites, making them move, and respond to events
Session 2 – Video tutorial: Theatre performance – learn how to create a story by making sprites have conversations with each other, incorporate sounds and respond to events
Session 3 – Live session on MS Teams: Questions, comments, sharing of projects created by participants, ideas on how to extend it to the classroom
Session 4 – Video tutorial: Introduction to Computer Science concepts – Unplugged or offscreen activity Maze
Session 5 – Video tutorial: Race – learn how to make a story with multiple sprites, make them big, small, show, hide, race at different speeds and span across multiple screens
Session 6 – Live session on MS Teams: Questions, comments, sharing of projects created by participants, ideas on how to extend it to the classroom
Session 7 – Video tutorial: Game – learn how to create a game by making sprites respond on tap, on bump, send and receive messages
Session 8 – Video tutorial: Space adventure – learn how to create a story by making sprites send and receive multiple messages and respond to events
Session 9 – Live session on MS Teams: Questions, comments, sharing of projects created by participants, ideas on how to extend it to the classroom
