Inhalt / Contenu
Groupe A – Atelier 1 – Practical ideas for blending in the language classroom: Pete Sharma
- Description of how teachers can blend face-to-face classroom teaching with online practice in the following areas: grammar and vocabulary / the receptive skills of listening and reading / the productive skills of speaking and writing / pronunciation
- exploration of how using online materials can help both teachers and students deal with mixed skills' levels / absenteeism / learner preferences and encourage learner independence.
Groupe B – Atelier 2 – The Art of the Question: Mike Turner
Teachers ask hundreds of questions every day, but this is often done in an intuitive way. Through a variety of discussion, peer-sharing and practical activities, this workshop explores the skillful use of questions to guide our students' learning. We will consider:
- why and how we use questions in the classroom
- the types of questions that are appropriate to different tasks
- how to formulate questions in a skilled way
- how we can foster learning by using questions
- strategies to support learner responses
- some fun activities we can use with learners to help them practice and develop their own use of question and response.
Groupe C – Atelier 3 – Essay Writing as a Teachable Skill: Daniel Redinger
How to make learners autonomous and reflective writers, using an objective-led and self-assessment centered approach. Participants know and understand:
- the key skills required for extended essay writing
- the required conditions for students to understand the success criteria
- the intrinsic connection between effective feedback and clear learning objectives
- the value of modelling pre-writing activities.
Groupe D – Atelier 4 – Teaching and Motivating Mixed Ability Classes_ Michelle van Toorn
Amongst teachers globally, there is a growing need for material on teaching mixed ability classes and stimulating active class participation. Using examples from the Cambridge University Press secondary course THiNK, a course geared towards aiding teachers in these areas, we will explore new possibilities and materials that can help overcome these obstacles. Examples are taken from the range of free downloadable worksheets on different levels for vocabulary, grammar, and literature. In addition, we will look how you can incorporate this extra material in your classes in a practical manner. Teachers will leave this workshop with new free tools they can use the very next day in class. They will have new handholds for dealing with different levels in one class, and will have learned more about how to encourage active student participation.
