Morning session
Groupe A: Engaging with student learning
Content: Student learning and how to assess understanding.
Aims & objectives: To have teachers feel more confident in engaging students with learning, to provide resources and activities as exemplars.
Groupe B: The Systemic Teacher
Content: How to handle disruptive students and classroom situations.
Aims & objectives: Attendees should be able to create a toolbox with necessary tools for future classroom management situations.
Groupe C: Reading between the lines - How to approach reading in class
Content: Reading helps us develop our knowledge of language, culture and life. It can inspire, excite and open up new windows on the world. However, it can also be frustrating, boring and demotivating. So how can we get the best from this rich resource in class? How can we motivate students to engage with a text? In this workshop, we will address the following questions:
- what makes a good reading text?
- what makes reading difficult for students? How can we motivate students and prepare them?
- how should we exploit reading in class? Which reading skills should we be teaching students and how?
- how can we encourage students to "make the text their own"?
Jayne Croxford is co-author of the secondary course "Insight" and would also be happy to answer any questions about "Insight" during the workshop or during the Teachers' Day.
Groupe D: Homework in the EFL classroom
Content: In this workshop we will explore the participants' attitudes to homework and the ways they use homework to reach their teaching objectives. We will discuss different types of homework and explore both the participants' own practice and principles that arise from the research into homework.
